Centre Philosophy

Love and respect are the foundation of The Miller Nest.

Through actions seasoned with unconditional Aroha (love) and Manaakitanga (kindness and respect), we work alongside our children; enabling them to explore, learn and grow, safe in the knowledge that they are respected and valued as individuals, supporting their emotional needs.

We value the whānau of our tamariki and all that they have to offer. Whakawhanaungatanga (establishing and maintaining relationships) creates a strong foundation for our children and their sense of belonging, and acknowledges te wairua me te matauranga ō ngā tamariki me ngā whanau (the spirit and knowledge of our children and families).

We see our children as precious taonga (treasures), and always put them at the heart of everything we do. We practice the concept of Ako (teaching and learning from each other), valuing and respecting the knowledge and skills each child brings with them.

Creating an environment where children are free to explore, use their imagination, make sense of the world, and open their minds to endless possibilities through an abundance of loose parts and meaningful experiences. This fosters intrinsic motivation and stimulates their passion to learn.

Engaging with nature and the local community are important to us and we believe that children should know and value the beautiful and precious place we live in.
